Music major life 🎶🎤🎹

Music major life can be very hard but it’s so rewarding at the end of the day! (First pic is from our lovely building at radford university)

As a music therapy major, I take 10+ courses in the span of just 1 semester and I’m often at school from 8am-6pm doing work/practicing (a full time job I know…), not to mention having mandatory recitals at 7:30pm (the worst). My favorite part is being able to have sessions out in the community with our field studies and learning first hand! Also perks include taking trips to different states + countries to perform 🥰 at the end of the day, the pros will usually outweigh the cons! :) even after several tears and screams in the practice room, I’d do it all again to make awesome music and help people along the way!

do you think you’d be able to do the long school hours + time dedicated? Does it sound worth it?

Radford University
2024/8/28 Edited to

... Read morePursuing a music degree, particularly in music therapy, involves dedication and resilience. Students typically juggle more than 10 courses per semester, contrasting sharply with the lighter loads of many other majors. Classes often run from early morning to evening, coupled with challenging recitals and practical community sessions. On the bright side, music majors enjoy unique opportunities such as field studies to gain real-world experience and travel for performances, enriching both their academic and professional journeys. While stressful, these experiences foster personal growth, artistic expression, and a sense of fulfillment that makes the demanding hours worthwhile. Students often cite emotional moments in practice rooms filled with determination, turning struggles into bonds through shared experiences. This mix of hard work and passion culminates in transformative experiences that help students connect with people through the power of music. Consider whether you have the commitment to tackle this rigorous schedule. Does the notion of long hours studying music resonate with you? For many, the joy of creating music and the impact it can have on others outweighs the struggles along the way. Engage with fellow students and share thoughts on whether the path of a music major feels rewarding in your perspective!
