Do you agree? Mental health ≠ weak 🫶

After taking some time away from this app due to mental health reasons, I’ve come to the realization that mental health is NOT linear.

1. Not every day is going to be even remotely the same- with anxiety/depression/etc diagnoses, it really comes in waves sometimes. Just because you had a good/bad day yesterday doesn’t mean today is the same. I thought something was wrong with me because of these constant ups and downs but that’s how mental health is and you work through it moment by moment ♥️

2. It’s okay to seek counseling and help- I tried to do it on my own and I wasn’t able to see progress in my well being until I started going to therapy. (I understand talk therapy isn’t for everyone but there are SEVERAL forms and remember that sometimes it takes time to find a therapist that really clicks with your personalities, beliefs and interests)

3. Find a great support system- when I was trying to do it all alone without even telling friends or families, things got worse. Finding people to support you in your journey is so so important

... Read moreMental health is a complex and highly individualized experience that many people find challenging to understand — even those living with it. Recognizing that mental health isn’t linear means accepting that some days will feel better and others may feel harder. This variability is especially common for those dealing with anxiety, depression, or other mood disorders. It’s important to remember that experiencing setbacks or fluctuations does not indicate failure or weakness; rather, it reflects the natural rhythm of mental wellness. Having realistic expectations means being patient with yourself and acknowledging that healing occurs in waves. Counseling plays a vital role in managing mental health. While talk therapy may not suit everyone, multiple therapeutic approaches exist — such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and even art or music therapy — offering diverse options to fit different personalities and needs. It often takes time to find a therapist who truly understands you and creates a safe space for growth. Besides professional help, building a strong support system is crucial. Isolation can worsen symptoms, whereas friends, family, or support groups provide encouragement, understanding, and accountability. Sharing your experiences can lessen feelings of loneliness and foster connection. Many have found that combining therapy with trusted support networks helps stabilize the waves of mental health challenges. Practicing self-compassion through ups and downs, recognizing signs when extra support is needed, and reaching out when struggling are empowering steps. Remember, mental health isn’t a sign of weakness but a vital aspect of overall well-being. Embracing its non-linear nature allows you to work through it moment by moment, celebrate the small victories, and continue moving forward on your unique journey to wellness.

100% agree with all of this. Mental health is not linear so there some good days and bad days. Even though I’m not always thrilled about going to therapy, I know it helps. And I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have such a strong support system.

I feel like a lot more people need to hear this because it is so true and a lot of people don’t understand that yet, it takes time and there are a lot of ups and downs
