A box of sanitary pads in an library saved my life
When I was in China, I had my period several times without any sanitary pads, which caused a lot of inconvenience and trouble. I had to stop everything I was doing and focus on looking for sanitary pads everywhere. Later, I developed a habit of carrying a few sanitary pads in my bag when I went out. First, I could use them in an emergency. Second, I could help girls who needed help. The library is a place I often go to, but I never noticed it before. In order to verify whether other libraries have this service, I went to the library near my home on the way home to confirm, and it was also available. I was surprised, as a woman, can you imagine how happy it is to live in such a community! After coming to the States, I never need to bring toilet paper when I go out. Every public toilet always has enough toilet paper. Today I found that there are even sanitary pads. I remember once in Beijing, I also saw a box for sanitary pads in front of the toilet door of a shopping mall, but there was a thick layer of dust on the box, which showed that it had been abandoned for a long time. I don’t know why. Maybe some people don’t need it but will take a lot, and some people need one or two but may empty the box. Gradually, the mall is unwilling to continue this service. Looking at Chinese social platforms, you can often see hot searches related to sanitary pads - sanitary pads have needle, unqualified raw materials, sanitary pads have higher prices after tax cuts, can sanitary pads be sold on high-speed trains? etc. I quickly asked chatgpt, and there are not many sanitary pad brands in the States, and there are almost no problems. Regarding public services, chatgpt told me that even prisons have free sanitary pads in the states. It’s hard to imagine how happy it would be if everyone lived in a public community that provided free sanitary pads!
