... Read moreGetting ready to head back to campus always brings up the big question: what am I going to eat this year? My undergraduate experience with dining hall food was surprisingly decent, and honestly, I learned a lot about making the most of it. It wasn’t always Michelin-star quality, but with a little creativity, you can really elevate your dining hall experience. One of my biggest tips for anyone starting college or returning to uni is to *master the salad bar*. Seriously, it's a game-changer. Even if the hot food station is serving something less-than-appetizing, a well-constructed salad can save the day. Look for fresh greens, a variety of colorful veggies, and don't be afraid to add protein like chickpeas, grilled chicken (if available), or hard-boiled eggs. Sometimes, I’d grab some roasted vegetables like those delicious roasted Brussels sprouts and add them to my salad for extra flavor and substance. It's an easy way to get some much-needed nutrients. Finding the 'best dining hall food' really depends on your specific campus, but there are usually hidden gems. At my school, the pizza station was always a reliable fallback, especially for a quick lunch. But beyond the staples, I discovered some amazing baked goods – like unexpectedly good scones for breakfast or a sweet treat. My advice? Explore all the stations, even the ones you think you won't like. You might be surprised! For 'dining hall meal ideas,' don't be afraid to mix and match. I often created my own 'bowls.' For example, starting with a base of rice or pasta, adding some grilled protein, and then topping it with stir-fried veggies from another station. Or, if there was a taco bar, I'd skip the shell and make a deconstructed taco salad. Think outside the box! I also learned to look for fresh fruit and yogurt for a quick, healthy snack between classes. When it comes to 'dining hall reviews,' I'd say the key is realistic expectations. It's mass-produced food, but many dining halls genuinely try to offer variety and quality. Pay attention to theme nights or special events, as these often feature their best culinary efforts. And if you have dietary restrictions, don't hesitate to talk to the dining staff – they are usually very accommodating. It's all about making your uni food journey as enjoyable and nutritious as possible, even when your options are limited. What are your go-to dining hall hacks?

My college isn’t the best, it’s the same options and then after a month or so the cooks start using expired stuff so it makes you sick. Besides the dining hall, there is a sub and grill place but it’s only open on the weekdays. There’s been times where I had to order out on weekends or just not eat at all.
