Grieving and Growing at the Same Time
Grief doesn’t just live in the moments I miss him.
It’s in the way I parent too.
It’s knowing he met my oldest but my son’s memories are fading… and my two youngest will only know him through the stories I tell.
Some days it breaks my heart all over again...wishing he could see them grow, wishing they could feel how much he would’ve loved them.
But in every hug, every bedtime story, every “I’m proud of you”… I try to pass down the kind of love he gave me.
Even if they never got to meet him, they’ll still know him...because he’s a part of me, and I’m a part of them.

Grief can often feel overwhelming, as if it competes with our ability to grow and experience joy. Yet, it's important to recognize that grief is not a linear process but rather a complex mix of emotions. Many find solace in creating new memories that honor those they've lost, allowing for pockets of peace amidst heartache. Activities like sharing stories, crafting rituals, or simply reflecting on memories can foster a loving connection with the past. Engagement with supportive communities can also provide strength. Sharing experiences with others who understand the lingering effects of grief can be therapeutic, reinforcing the idea that it's okay to feel joy and sadness simultaneously. The act of remembering loved ones can inspire growth; learning to live with their memory enriches our lives and the lives of those we love. It's essential to note that moments of laughter or happiness do not diminish the love we hold for those we've lost. Rather, these moments can coexist with grief, illustrating the depth of human experience. Embracing both grief and growth is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, reminding us that love continues to flourish even through loss.
