Got a $20k Raise Why Is My Paycheck Barely Higher

So I thought I was leveling up when I accepted a new job with a $20k raise and more management duties. First paycheck came in and… it’s basically only $100 more.

The reason? Hidden costs. They charge a spousal fee for every program (my old company didn’t). Add the higher tax bracket and my HSA expectations being wrong (they don’t actually contribute), and now it feels like I’m actually losing out long term.

I know it’s on me for not catching it in the fine print, but wow… it’s a huge reality check. Sometimes a big raise on paper doesn’t mean a big difference in your pocket.
