How I became confident In doing my own soft locs 😌

This all started when I wanted to try something different, I always wore my hair in a bun because I never wanted to deal with it. I initially tried to find someone to do it for me as I had never attempted anything like this before. However I wasn’t willing to pay between $300-$500 🥴 call me cheap 🤷🏽‍♀️

A few weeks of watching YouTube videos and I decided to pull the trigger. The first time took me 2 days to get it all done. I liked it but knew it could be better so I kept working at it, trying new techniques and products till I finally got the hang of it.

Moral of the story is I taught myself how to do this by myself because I’m a cheapskate 🥴😂 I got free time and YouTube 😌💅🏽I still have room to improve for sure #prettygirlwithlocs💕💚 #softlocs

... Read moreLearning to do soft locs on my own has been an empowering experience that I highly recommend for anyone interested in protective hairstyles. Initially, I struggled a lot, especially with managing the neatness and consistency of each loc, but persistence and watching countless tutorials on YouTube made a significant difference. One of the key takeaways from my three-year journey is the importance of experimenting with different techniques and products. For example, switching to moisturizing leave-in conditioners and light oils helped keep my locs soft without the heavy buildup that can weigh them down. Also, I found that practicing on smaller sections before committing to the full head made the process less overwhelming. In addition to technical skills, I learned the value of embracing my unique style. Discovering goddess and boho loc styles was a game changer that made me feel more connected to my hair journey and boosted my confidence tremendously. If you’re considering starting your soft locs, my advice is to be patient and give yourself grace through the learning curve. It’s normal for your first attempts to look messy or uneven—as mine were—but practicing consistently will surely improve your skills. Most importantly, doing your own soft locs saves a lot of money, and the pride in styling your own hair is truly rewarding. For anyone on a budget, being 'cheap' (like me!) is not a bad thing—it motivates you to learn new skills that last a lifetime. Armed with free time and YouTube, you too can achieve beautiful, soft locs that match your personal style and make you feel confident every day.
