why i HATE women’s jeans

I’m not sure if this is just a me problem at this point, but no matter how many sizes I try, I am never really fitting into my jeans. I almost always get my jeans at Hollister because most places don’t have jeans that stretch for curvy women.

If i find a good pair of jeans that fit my thighs, it’s too big for my waist.

If i find jeans that are good on my waist, most of the time I can barely pull them up past my thighs and butt.

anyone have any recommendations on jeans that are nice quality and stretchy?

... Read moreIt's such a relief to know I'm not the only one who feels this way about jeans! Seriously, the struggle to find the perfect pair of women's jeans is real, and it often feels like a conspiracy against anyone with a non-straight body type. We've all been there: you pull on a pair, and they either gap hugely at the waist if they fit your thighs, or you can barely get them over your hips if the waist measurement looks right. It's truly frustrating and can make you want to give up on jeans altogether, echoing that "why I hate women's jeans" sentiment perfectly. One of the biggest reasons for this universal sizing headache is the way jeans are traditionally manufactured. Most brands design for a 'standard' body, which often means a smaller difference between waist and hip measurements. If you have a curvier hip-to-waist ratio, or even an athletic build with muscular thighs, you're immediately outside that standard mold. This is why you end up with jeans that are "too big" in one area and "too small" in another, just like those frustrating size tags from my own shopping experiences often show – a size 6 can be "way too big" while another size 6 is "too small." It’s definitely not just a 'you' problem! So, how tight should jeans be at the waist, or anywhere for that matter? Ideally, your jeans should feel snug but comfortable. At the waist, you shouldn't feel restricted, but there shouldn't be a significant gap either (a common issue for many of us!). You should be able to sit down comfortably, breathe, and move without feeling like you're being squeezed. For your thighs and hips, a good fit means they're hugging your body without creating uncomfortable pressure points or restricting your movement. If they're cutting off your circulation or making it hard to walk, they're definitely "too tight." Conversely, if you can pinch an inch or more of fabric easily around your hip or thigh, they might be "too big" and lose their shape quickly. Many of us "hate wearing jeans" because we've only experienced ill-fitting pairs. But trust me, finding comfortable jeans that actually fit is a game-changer. The key often lies in seeking out denim with a good percentage of stretch – look for blends with spandex, elastane, or Lycra. These materials allow the fabric to mold to your body's unique shape, providing that much-needed give in the thighs and hips while still snapping back to hold the waist. Don't be afraid to try different rises too; a higher rise can sometimes help eliminate waist gapping for curvier figures, while a mid-rise might be more comfortable if you dislike anything too high. It's also worth remembering that sizing isn't universal across brands. A size 4 at one store might be a size 7/6 at another, as my own collection of Hollister jeans with their varying "fit okay," "a bit tight," or "fit me great" labels proves. This means trying on multiple sizes and styles, and even different brands, is essential. Don't get disheartened if the first few pairs don't work out. Focus on how the jeans feel on your body rather than the number on the tag. Finding that perfect, comfortable pair of jeans that makes you feel good is absolutely achievable, and when you do, all that frustration will be worth it!

I'm plus size and have the smell problem. I find that Cato and Walmart jeans seem to have the best overall fit. not perfect but decent enough that I am comfortable going out in them.
