How I got a 4.0 GPA this semester

Hi guys!! So I just finished my semester on monday and my final grades got posted and i finished with a 4.0! :)

Prior semesters I got a max of a 3.5 and had a cumulative GPA of a 3.4. As an engineering student, I just thought a 4.0 was impossible.

This semester I decide I wanted to shoot for a 4.0 and I got it! and here’s how:

🩷Taking ONE day a week where I don’t touch or think about school

- Prior semesters I was working 25/8 and I often found myself completely burned out by the end of the week.

- I decided that I would give myself the full day on Saturdays to just be a human being

- I wouldn’t touch or think about school and treat that day as my off day!

- I even avoided getting scheduled for work on Saturdays so I could just be a human lol!

🩷 READING THE TEXTBOOK BEFORE CLASS!!

- I never realized how important this was until I started doing it

- I was going to class prepared and I knew what was going on and I didn’t feel lost all the time in class

- It sounds like such a small thing but it saved me sooo much time trying to figure out the work after class

🩷 Active Recalling after I left class

- The Active Recall study method is one I had heard of before but never used myself until this semester

- After class, I would sit down with my iPad and try to recall everything I had just learned in class to see what I remembered

- I found this useful to go back for exams because it allowed me to figure out what I did and didn’t know

🩷Doing my homework a week ahead

- I found that if I did my homework at least a week ahead of the due date, I wasn’t stressing out about it the day it was due

- I fill like this sounds self explanatory but last semester and all of last year I did my assignment the day it was due or the day before.

- This semester, I spent the week before classes started to do as many assignments as I could

- Every sunday, I would check how many assignments I had for that week or the next week and do as many as I could that day and then over the week I would try to do a few assignments a day

- For me, I have about 20-25 assignments a week and I would try to get 15 done on sunday and then as many as I could each day following

🩷 Giving myself AT LEAST a week before each exam!

- Again another self explanatory but I never realized how much trying to cram information wasn’t helping me

- I was always caught up doing assignments that I never studied

- This was only useful to me because I was also a week ahead on my assignments! It helped me so much to have this extra time to study!

Creating a schedule that includes a complete day off from schoolwork allows for mental rejuvenation, which boosts productivity during study periods. Reading textbooks before class is an underrated strategy that prepares students and enhances understanding. This proactive approach leads to better engagement during lectures and helps students retain information more effectively. Furthermore, implementing Active Recall methods can transform the study experience; practicing the recall of learned concepts solidifies knowledge and reveals areas needing reinforcement. Planning homework ahead of time is another critical element. Completing assignments a week in advance reduces last-minute stress, allowing for deeper engagement with material and better retention. Lastly, allocating at least a week before exams for dedicated study time encourages thorough preparation, reducing the urge to cram, which can often lead to anxiety and lower performance. By utilizing these strategies, students not only work more efficiently but also foster a positive and effective learning environment.

So just a question, I had my GPA at a 3.8 and because of work it dropped to a 3.6 and I fear it will drop after this term as well. Is it possible for me to get it to a 4.0 my next term? That’s all I’ve wanted but work has been so hard lately and I barely have time to study.
