... Read moreOh my goodness, if you've ever been to the Houston Rodeo or any carnival, you know the magic of a perfectly deep-fried Oreo. That warm, crispy exterior giving way to the soft, melty cookie and cream filling? Pure bliss! I used to think it was a complicated treat best left to the pros, but let me tell you, making Houston Rodeo-style fried Oreos at home with Bisquick is surprisingly simple and incredibly satisfying. It's become my go-to for those urgent sweet cravings, especially late at night! I know the original post mentioned the basic ingredients, but let's dive a little deeper into making this ultimate indulgence. To get that perfect golden-brown coating and ensure your deep-fried Oreos are as good as any you'd find at a fair, here’s my tried-and-true method: What You'll Need (Adjust for Desired Quantity): 1 cup Bisquick pancake mix (any brand works, but Bisquick is my favorite for consistency) 2/3 cup milk (I strongly recommend milk over water for a richer batter!) 1-2 sleeves of Oreo cookies (the classic ones work best, but feel free to experiment with flavors!) Vegetable oil or canola oil for frying (enough to submerge the Oreos, about 2-3 inches deep in your pot) Powdered sugar for dusting (optional, but highly recommended for that classic carnival look!) A sturdy pot or Dutch oven for frying Tongs or a slotted spoon A cooling rack set over paper towels Let's Get Frying – My Step-by-Step Guide: Prepare Your Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick pancake mix and milk until you have a smooth, lump-free batter. You're looking for a consistency that's thick enough to coat the back of a spoon but still pourable. If it's too thick, add a tiny bit more milk; if too thin, a spoonful more Bisquick. This is key for a good coating! Heat the Oil: Pour your oil into your pot, ensuring it's at least 2-3 inches deep. Heat it over medium-high heat. The ideal temperature is around 350-375°F (175-190°C). If you don't have a thermometer, you can test it by dropping a tiny bit of batter into the oil. If it immediately sizzles and floats to the top, it's ready. Be patient; getting the oil to the right temperature is crucial for crispy, non-greasy fried Oreos. Coat Those Oreos! One by one, take an Oreo cookie and fully submerge it into the pancake batter. Make sure it's completely coated on all sides. I use a fork or a skewer to dip and then gently lift it out, letting any excess batter drip off. This ensures that beautiful, even golden-brown crust. Fry 'Em Up! Carefully place the batter-coated Oreos into the hot, bubbling oil using your tongs. Don't overcrowd the pot – fry only 2-3 at a time so the oil temperature doesn't drop too much. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, or until they are puffed up and a gorgeous golden-brown. Keep an eye on them; they can brown quickly! Drain and Dust: Once they're perfectly golden, use your tongs or slotted spoon to remove the deep-fried Oreos from the oil. Place them on a cooling rack lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. This step is important to prevent them from becoming greasy. While they're still warm, dust them generously with powdered sugar. This is where they really start to look like that carnival treat! My Extra Tips for the Best Fried Oreos: Don't Rush the Oil: As tempting as it is, make sure your oil is at the right temperature. Too cool, and your Oreos will be greasy; too hot, and they'll burn before cooking through. Topping Ideas: Beyond powdered sugar, consider a drizzle of chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or even some sprinkles for extra fun! It elevates the experience even more. Serve Warm: These are definitely best enjoyed fresh and warm. The contrast of the hot, crispy batter and the soft, warm Oreo filling is just unbeatable. You can even cut one open, like in the picture, to show off that gooey interior! Making these Houston Rodeo-style fried Oreos with Bisquick at home is a game-changer. It's a quick, easy, and incredibly delicious way to treat yourself. Trust me, once you try them, you'll be making them for every sweet craving!
