Short Story "Shower Afternoon"
Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
I left my child at the nursery school and headed to the station after drying the laundry. My husband has already gone to work. I am thought to be "going to the part as usual." In fact, I took the train to the city.
When I left the ticket gate at 10 am, he was there.
"It's hot again today. The air is heavy."
"Yeah, it feels like it's going to rain."
We stopped by a convenience store and bought a lunch box and iced coffee. While walking with a bag in hand, it would have looked like a normal couple returning from shopping. But we always headed to the hotel.
Enter the room and shower first.
The sound of water echoes as if it overlaps the voice of the cicada outside. When I was wiping my hair with a towel, I was hugged as if I could not wait. Here I can remember the "woman's face" that I had not touched for a long time.
After a while, when I looked out the window, the sky suddenly became dark. I heard the sound of thunder rumbling, and soon a large rain hit the curtain.
"It's a shower."
He murmured. Just the two of us in a small room. The sound outside seemed to hide everything, and even the heartbeat was drowned in the rain.
After hugging each other once, open the lunch box.
"The sound of rain, like BGM"
"Yeah... I feel calm."
When he finished eating, his hand reached out again.
There s still time until you go home.
Outside the window, there was smoke in the rain, like the world had disappeared. Once again, I sank into the heat.
Looking at the clock, it was around 3 o'clock. I hurriedly got ready and went out.

When I passed the ticket gate and looked back, he was still standing.
My eyes didn't stop until I was lost in the crowd.
