Let go and let God 🤍
I want you to take a minute and study the picture because it delivers the message perfectly. We like to think that when God asks us to let something go that He just wants to see us miserable, and He doesn’t want us to enjoy life. In the picture, the girl is holding a “little” teddy bear that she says she “loves.” God, on the other hand, is saying just trust Me to give you something better, and He’s holding a “much bigger” teddy bear behind His back. The girl is so stuck on her feelings towards the possession that she won’t even trust God to give her something better. “But I love it…,” “But I need it…,” “But I can’t live without it…,” “but, but, but…” We need to lose our “buts” when dealing with God and doing the things that He tells us to do. We are so adamant about keeping things, people, and emotions because they make us feel good, but God is saying give it to Him and let Him give you something better. Let Him enhance your life, but the “but God…” prohibits Him from having His way.
First Corinthians 2:9 says: “but as Scripture says: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him” (GW). God has so many wonderful things planned for you if you will only let Him give it to you. The things He has planned are so good that the human brain cannot even comprehend it. God doesn’t want to take things away from you or make you miserable. In John 10:10 Jesus says: “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (NLT). When you hold on to what God is telling you to let go of, the devil will try to convince you that what God has isn’t better than what you already have, or what you’re already feeling. You need to recognize these lies and put the devil in his place, and like Jesus said in the picture, just trust Him. Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.

That teddy bear illustration truly hit home for me, and I bet it resonates with many of you too! It’s so easy to cling to what we know, even if it’s small or not truly serving us. I’ve been there so many times, whispering, 'But I love it, God...' when I felt Him nudging me to release something. It could be a comfort zone, a relationship that wasn't healthy, or even just a long-held dream that wasn't aligning with His path for me. The core of it, I've realized, is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of loss, fear that 'something better' might not really be better for *me*. But then I remember moments where I did finally surrender, and looking back, it's always been for my good. It wasn't always immediate, and sometimes 'better' looked different than I imagined, but it was always more aligned with peace and purpose. It’s a profound shift once you truly grasp that Jesus isn't taking things from you to make you miserable, but rather clearing the path for unimaginable blessings. So, how do we actually do it? How do we move from saying 'But I love it...' to truly trusting God and letting go? For me, it starts with acknowledging those feelings. It's okay to feel attached or even scared. Then, I try to visualize what God might have behind His back – not necessarily a bigger teddy bear, but perhaps a deeper sense of peace, a more fulfilling opportunity, or a relationship that genuinely reflects His love. Sometimes, the 'just trust me' can feel daunting, but remembering that He has plans to prosper us, not to harm us, helps immensely. One practical step I take is to write down what I'm holding onto and why I'm afraid to let it go. Then, I write down what I believe God's intentions are for me (based on verses like Jeremiah 29:11, which talks about plans to prosper us and give us hope!). This helps shift my perspective from scarcity to abundance. It reminds me that His purpose is to give us a rich and satisfying life. Another way is to reflect on past experiences. Think about a time you reluctantly let go of something, and later realized it was the best thing that could have happened. Those personal testimonies are powerful reminders that God is trustworthy. Every time I remember that 'Just Trust Me' whisper from God, like in the illustration, it encourages me. It's not about Him taking away; it's about Him making space for His incredible blessings. He truly does have 'something better' for us, things that 'no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined.' Embracing this truth has transformed how I approach decisions and challenges. It’s a journey, not a one-time event, but every step of letting go builds more trust and opens doors to His amazing grace.
