Twenty year dream
I remember the long walks to my first job at a grocery store twenty years ago. I'd be in my own world, walking along a busy street, daydreaming about the books I wanted to write.
I started writing books when I was about fifteen, but they weren't very good, and I couldn't finish any of them.
I remember daydreaming that one day, I'd finish a book, and it would get announced as a movie, too, and that my book would come out in multiple languages.
I am very blessed and fortunate. My journey to get published was immensely humbling. There were many tears and heartbreak. The emotional nights when I'd tell my wife that it was time to shelve a book project and try another. The saying goodbye to characters who I adored.
And the excitement of starting a new project with more vigor and intensity than before.
One thing about me is I feel emotions in a big way. I always have. So, I experienced the lows of the process and the highs very profoundly. If you saw me crying in front of my students when I saw SKY'S END's cover for the first time, that was genuine. I was overwhelmed!
I'm doing all I can to savor my debut year as an author. You only debut once. It's been immensely special. But I have next year to look forward to, beginning with the launch of AMONG SERPENTS.
In many ways, AMONG SERPENTS is a book I've long wanted to write. It is pain and frustration and non-stop conflict.
I cannot wait to share more of Conrad's journey with you. And I cannot wait to add more editions of my books to this image.
