Always Forward Never Backward

IF YOU CAN’T FLY THEN RUN. IF YOU CAN’T RUN THEN WALK. IF YOU CAN’T WALK THEN CRAWL. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

I used to let it consume me, but I've found a few little tricks that genuinely help me recenter and keep pushing forward. One of my favorites is leaning on powerful words, especially when they come from someone as inspiring as Martin Luther King Jr. That quote, 'If you can't fly then run... whatever you do you have to keep moving forward,' is more than just words on a page or even, as my friend has, a beautifully framed motivational quote on a black background against a white brick wall. It's a philosophy. For me, it's a reminder that progress isn't always about grand leaps. Sometimes, it's about the tiny, consistent steps you take when you feel like you can't do anything else. It helps me quiet the anxiety that whispers, 'You're not doing enough,' and instead encourages the voice that says, 'Just do what you can, today.' Beyond MLK's wisdom, I've collected a few other 'don't stress' mantras that have become my personal anchors. One that often comes to mind is from Lao Tzu: 'If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.' This one is brilliant for bringing me back to the now, reminding me that most of my stress comes from worrying about things that haven't happened yet, or dwelling on what's already done. Another gem I recently came across, which isn't a direct quote but a concept, is the '5-minute rule.' If something is stressing me out and I can't tackle it fully right now, I commit to spending just five minutes on it. Often, those five minutes break the inertia, and I find myself continuing. Even if I don't, I've still made a start, and that small win helps alleviate a surprising amount of mental pressure. It's like the 'crawl' part of MLK's quote – just get started, no matter how small the action. And for those moments when I just need to vent or process, I remind myself of a simple truth: 'This too shall pass.' It sounds cliché, but when you're in the thick of it, remembering that feelings are temporary and challenges are finite can be incredibly calming. It doesn't minimize the struggle, but it puts it into perspective. So, if you're like me and sometimes find yourself drowning in stress, maybe these words can offer a lifeline. Whether it's MLK's powerful call to keep moving, Lao Tzu's reminder to stay present, or just the simple act of taking a tiny step, finding what resonates with you is key. What are your go-to 'don't stress' quotes or strategies? I'd love to hear them!
