baby led weaning ESSENTIALS!

these are my absolute must haves for baby led weaning

1. SOME KIND OF MESS MAT

Baby led weaning is MESSY. Having some kind of easy to clean mat underneath the high chair is such a life saver.

2. BABY UTENSILS

I love both of these for different reasons! The ones with the holes in the spoon make it so much easier for baby to learn to feed themselves. They can mash the spoon into the food and it will go through the hole for them so they don’t have to scoop it up. On the other hand, stainless steel is so much better than plastic or silicone! I especially like the ones with the little guard to protect them from putting the utensil too far into their mouth. I tend to lean towards the ones with the holes until they get a little better with their fine motor skills, then switch to stainless steel.

3. BABY PLATES/BOWLS

Again, stainless steel is so much better than silicone or plastic. But silicone has the benefit of being able to suction and the plate/bowl falling or being thrown. So these specific bowls are the best of both worlds!

4. PLACEMATS

Placemats are ESSENTIAL! Especially if you are eating somewhere where you’re not using a tray on a high chair. When we’re going to restaurants or eating at family’s house, these are great to keep the table clean. They wipe off easily and roll up to fit into the diaper bag. And create less waste than the disposable ones that are very popular.

5. MESS BAGS

If you’re eating out there’s a chance that your baby makes enough mess to need an outfit change. A mess bag is perfect for putting those dirty clothes in until you get home. Reusable, washable, and better for the planet than using a plastic bag that you’ll throw away after one use.

6. PORTABLE HIGH CHAIR

This is possibly the MOST portable high chair ever. Folds up nice and small and can be thrown in the washer!

7. BIBS

Absolutely necessary. I love the silicone bibs with the little space to catch food at the bottom, but sometimes you need a full body bib to tackle certain meals.

🤍save for later🤍

... Read moreBaby led weaning (BLW) is a popular method that allows babies to self-feed, encouraging independence and helping to develop their motor skills. To make this journey smoother for parents, having the right tools on hand is crucial. The first and foremost is a mess mat or splash mat. Since babies tend to create a lot of mess during feedings, a mat provides an easy clean-up option. Choosing the right utensils is also essential. Look for baby utensils designed specifically for small hands, with features such as holes in spoons that help babies learn to scoop and mash food easily. Various materials like stainless steel and silicone each have their pros and cons; stainless steel is durable and safe, while silicone plates can suction to surfaces, preventing spills. When dining out or visiting friends and family, a portable high chair is invaluable. Lightweight options not only fit in a diaper bag but also allow for a hygienic eating space away from home. Pair this with adaptable placemats that keep your surfaces clean; these can be rolled up and taken anywhere. Bibs are another must-have; silicone bibs with food-catching pockets make clean-up easier, while full-body bibs can be used for particularly messy meals. Additionally, keeping a mess bag handy for storing dirty clothes while on the go is an eco-friendly solution. Each of these essentials not only provides practical support but also enhances your child's confidence during mealtimes, making the transition to solid foods a more enjoyable experience.
