my birth center essentials

here are some of the essentials i packed for birth at a birth center!

1. comfy clothes / pjs!

at a birth center you’re not always given a gown to labor in like at the hospital. i brought my own that i could wear during and after labor. the pjs are from target and they were truly so comfy! i got the navy blue and black sets, and they had lots of other options as well. i sized up but probably could have made my normal size work! they are very soft and stretchy.

2. hair brush / ties

this was something i overlooked with my first! i forgot a hair brush and my hair was a wreck by the time labor was over. this was at the top of my list this time.

3. extra outfit for birth partner

i had a water birth at my birth center and an extra outfit for my husband was essential. we almost didn’t bring one! you only stay for a few hours after birth unlike at the hospital where you usually stay 1-2 days. he had a swim suit packed so he could be in the tub with me, but labor came on FAST and he ended up jumping in fully clothed. thankfully we had that extra change of clothes for him!

4. speaker

i brought a speaker with me so that i could turn on my own music and make it a nice relaxing environment. i actually ended up hating all noise and being annoyed if anyone spoke at all, so i didn’t use it. but i think it a lot of moms would actually enjoy it!

Also, if you enjoy music, bringing a portable speaker can enhance your labor atmosphere, although remember to consider your comfort with noise during delivery. These essentials aim to create an enjoyable and supportive environment for your birthing experience. Preparing in advance can help alleviate stress and contribute to a more positive birthing journey.
