our christmas traditions

we LOVE christmas in our house and we have a lot of fun little traditions that we do each year! some of these my husband did as a kid, some of them i did as a kid. i love that we have been able to combine our family traditions to make new traditions for our own little family of 4.

we always start out the christmas season with a pair of matching christmas pjs! we always get nice bamboo ones for them and they love them. my son is still wearing his “christmas cookie” pjs from last year! we give them these the day after thanksgiving so they can wear them the whole christmas season!

we always attend community christmas events!! we love feeling involved with the community during the christmas season so we attend everything. parades, posadas, you name it!

we always go to dinner with my family on christmas eve! it’s almost always our favorite italian restaurant but we have been known to switch it up to a different italian restaurant when we forget to make a reservation.

on christmas eve we always open one present with my in laws! that’s something my husband always did growing up and my kids are definitely into early presents.

on christmas eve before bed we take the kids to go look at christmas lights! they love them.

Additionally, participating in community Christmas events not only strengthens bonds within families but also connects them to their neighborhoods, fostering a sense of belonging during the holiday season. On Christmas Eve, indulging in a meal at a beloved family restaurant can contribute to the festive spirit. Whether it’s Italian cuisine or another favorite, sharing meals together is essential. Then, the excitement of opening one present that evening adds an element of surprise and joy for children, creating a cherished anticipation. As the night culminates, driving around to admire beautiful Christmas lights is a magical experience for kids, sparking wonder and joy. Each of these traditions, whether they are new or rooted in the past, enriches the holiday season, allowing families to create their unique blend of traditions that they will carry on for generations.
