Must know drugstore foundations

Luxe Skin Matching (100/10) This product is the undeniable winner, receiving a perfect score. It performs just as well as the expensive Haus Labs foundation but offers a superior balance of glow and sweat resistance. It feels like a luxury moisturizer and is the ideal choice for professional settings like job interviews because of its natural finish.

Haus Labs Triclone (9/10) This is an excellent foundation in terms of quality, but the pricing is exorbitant—I noted that the cost feels like a "punishable crime".

Estée Lauder Double Wear (9/10) Known as the "Queen of longevity," this is a powerhouse for duration. However, you must apply it carefully; a heavy hand will result in a cakey appearance.

Maybelline Super Stay 30H (8/10) This formula is very lightweight, which is a great benefit, but it dries extremely fast. You have roughly 30 seconds to blend it before it sets, requiring a quick application technique.

Tirtir Mask (8/10) While this foundation lives up to its promise of long-time wear, the sensory experience is heavy, feeling literally like wearing a mask.

L’Oreal Infallible 24H (7.5/10) This is a "pretty good" option, but be warned that it can dry out the skin.

Elf Halo Glow Liquid (7/10) I found this product to have "disco ball energy" due to its intense shimmer. It is not bad, but it functions much more like a highlighter than a foundation.

L’Oreal True Match (6/10) I rated this lower because of its poor performance in heat. It dissolves too quickly in warm weather conditions.

Fenty Beauty Match Stick (6/10) The formula here is excessively dry. I struggled to blend it out and had to drag the stick across my skin, which is not ideal for seamless application.

Maybelline Fit Me (5/10) Despite being affordable, I do not recommend this. It oxidizes significantly, turning the skin an orange "Oompa Loompa" shade.

Let me know in the comments if you agree with these ratings or if you have a different experience!

... Read moreStepping into the world of foundation can feel a bit overwhelming, especially when you're just starting your beauty journey. With so many products touted as “viral” online, it's tough to know which ones are truly beginner-friendly and worth your hard-earned money. My goal here is to help you navigate this exciting landscape, offering tips on how to choose, where to buy, and what to look for in those popular foundations! First off, what makes a foundation “viral” and why should you care as a beginner? Often, these are products that gain immense popularity for a reason: they're either incredibly effective, super affordable, or uniquely easy to use. For instance, a product like Luxe Skin Matching, which many rave about for its flawless finish, captures that viral energy because it often delivers high-end results without the high-end price tag, making it an accessible option for those new to makeup. When picking your first foundation, keep it simple. Understanding your skin type (oily, dry, combination, or normal) is crucial. If you have oily skin, you might want something matte and long-lasting, while dry skin types will benefit from hydrating formulas. Don't worry too much about achieving full-coverage perfection right away; a lighter, buildable formula will be much more forgiving and natural-looking, helping you build confidence. Shade matching is probably the trickiest part. We've all seen, or perhaps experienced, the dreaded “Oompa Loompa” effect, as mentioned with one Maybelline Fit Me review. This happens when a foundation oxidizes or is simply the wrong undertone. My best advice? Swatch shades on your jawline in natural light and let them sit for a few minutes to see how they truly dry down. Don't be afraid to ask for samples if available! Now, let's talk about where to find these viral and beginner-friendly foundations. Each type of retailer has its own vibe and benefits: Drugstores (like CVS, Walgreens, Target): These are fantastic starting points for affordability and convenience. You'll find classics like Maybelline Fit Me, L'Oreal Infallible, and sometimes even newer viral sensations. The pros are obvious: they're budget-friendly, easily accessible, and many stores have decent return policies, which is great for beginners experimenting. The con? Testers can be scarce or unsanitary, and personalized advice is usually non-existent. However, for discovering solid, everyday drugstore foundations you should know about, they're unbeatable. Beauty Stores (Ulta, Sephora): These are your playgrounds for exploration. You'll find a massive selection, including popular high-end options like Estée Lauder Double Wear (known for its longevity) and Fenty Beauty Match Stix (often seen in viral contouring tutorials), alongside many drugstore brands at Ulta. The biggest pro here is the availability of testers and often knowledgeable staff who can help with shade matching and product recommendations. This is where you can truly get hands-on. The downside is that it can be pricier, and the sheer volume of choices can be overwhelming. Online Retailers: The internet is a treasure trove for finding viral products, often through social media recommendations. Websites offer convenience and sometimes exclusive deals. However, buying foundation online without swatching is a gamble. Always read reviews, look for user-submitted photos, and check return policies before committing. It's a great place to discover buzz-worthy items like Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter, which went viral for its radiant, multi-purpose appeal, even if it's not a traditional foundation. Ultimately, finding your perfect foundation is a personal journey of trial and error. Don't be discouraged if your first few tries aren't perfect. The goal is to find something that feels good on your skin, looks natural, and ultimately makes you feel confident. Remember, even a highly-rated product like Maybelline Fit Me might not be for everyone, but its popularity means it's worth understanding why it works for so many. Keep experimenting, lean on reviews, and enjoy the process of discovering what truly enhances your natural beauty!
