IC Sandwich
I’d fight somebody for an #icecream cookie sandwich.
Not really, but I do love them. The only downside, well…downsides, is the price, and all of the unnecessary ingredients.
Why are they $3 a piece? And why do they have a list of ingredients longer than the entire book of Psalms?
Maybe I’ll make some from scratch…👀
Ice cream cookie sandwiches are a timeless treat loved by many, but their convenience has a cost—both in price and ingredients. When you examine store-bought options, it’s common to find them priced around $3 each, which quickly adds up if you crave them often. Additionally, many commercial brands include preservatives, artificial flavors, and other additives to extend shelf life and enhance texture, which can detract from the simplicity and purity of the dessert. Making ice cream cookie sandwiches at home not only allows you to control the ingredients but also gives you the freedom to customize flavors and textures. Start by baking your favorite cookies—classic chocolate chip or chewy oatmeal work wonderfully. For the ice cream, choose high-quality, natural options or make your own to avoid unnecessary additives. After cooling the cookies, sandwich a scoop of ice cream between two cookies and freeze them briefly until firm. A tip I've found helpful is using slightly softer cookies so they meld well with the ice cream’s texture, preventing the sandwich from becoming too hard or crumbly. You can also experiment with adding mix-ins like crushed nuts, sprinkles, or a drizzle of chocolate to elevate your homemade treat. This DIY approach is not only more economical but also a fun activity to engage in with family or friends. Moreover, homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches can be a healthier alternative when you substitute some ingredients like using whole wheat flour for cookies or opting for low-sugar ice cream variants. These choices help satisfy sweet cravings while aligning better with nutritional preferences. Overall, making your own IC sandwiches at home is worth trying if you want fresh flavors, cost savings, and full ingredient transparency.
