My recent trip to Forest Falls absolutely blew me away, and I just had to share more tips for anyone looking to explore this incredible spot in the San Bernardino National Forest! While my post mentioned the exhilarating rock climb, I wanted to dive deeper into making your visit truly unforgettable and safe. First off, getting there can sometimes feel a bit tricky if you're new to the area. Forest Falls is nestled in the San Gorgonio Wilderness, and finding it is part of the adventure! From San Bernardino, you’ll head east on CA-38. The turnoff for Forest Falls Road can be easy to miss if you're not paying attention, so keep an eye out. As for parking, the original post mentioned the Adventure Pass. Yes, you do need one for designated parking areas, which helps maintain these beautiful spots. I’ve found that sometimes parking on the dirt shoulder just outside the paved lots, as long as it's clearly not blocking traffic or marked otherwise, can save you the hassle of finding a pass. But always double-check local signage to avoid any tickets! Beyond the adrenaline-pumping ascent, there’s so much more to do at Forest Falls. Even if you're not up for scaling the rugged cliff face like I was, the lower trails offer incredibly serene views. You can spend hours just enjoying the main accessible areas where the majestic waterfall plunges into a clear pool. It’s perfect for photography, capturing the beautiful cascade of water over smooth, sun-dappled rocks. I even found a spot where a serene small waterfall tumbles into a shaded pool, nestled among large rocks – ideal for a quiet picnic or just soaking in nature’s beauty. The sound of the winding stream through the deep, rocky canyon, surrounded by lush green trees, is just so calming. It truly highlights the adventurous spirit of Forest Falls, whether you're climbing or just enjoying the view. For those planning a visit, I always recommend bringing plenty of water, especially if you plan to explore. Sturdy, waterproof hiking shoes are a must for navigating the sometimes slippery terrain. A small backpack with snacks, a first-aid kit, and a camera to capture the stunning scenery will also make your day better. And seriously, if you do decide to attempt any off-trail rock climbing, never go alone. The rocks can be incredibly slick, and having a companion for support or in case of an emergency is invaluable. The best time to visit, in my opinion, is during spring or early summer when the snowmelt feeds the falls, making them most spectacular, and the weather is pleasantly mild.
