HWY 1 STOPS
Time for a CA road trip? I think so 🤩
Here are some of my favorite stops when we make the trip!
🚗 McWay Falls: don’t be intimated by the people in intense hiking gear, there are lots of trailheads nearby. The walk to McWay Falls is truly just that, a walk.
🚗 Battery Spencer: an SF staple! The view is unbelievable 🌉
🚗 Bixby Creek Bridge: worth it to stop & take in the views 👀
🚗 Big Sur: stop anywhere, stop every where. Every lookout, get out & admire this view 🌊
🚗 Elephant Seal Rookery: December to March is birthing season! ðŸ¦
🚗 Hearst Castle: If you have time to stop and take a tour, do it! If not, keep those eyes peeled for descendants from William Hearst’s private zoo! 🦓
🚗 Morro Bay: This is our usual overnight stopping point! Be sure to catch the otters over by Great American Fish Co! 🦦
🚗 Solvang: Be sure to make a stop in this cute Danish town to grab some apple strudel for the road! 🇩🇰
Other honorable mentions include SLO, Pismo, Santa Barbara, Cambria, Monterey, Carmel-by-the-sea, and Half Moon Bay!

Big Sur, a region known for its dramatic cliffs and ocean views, beckons travelers to explore various vantage points along the way. Every corner presents a new breathtaking vista, making it a true haven for photographers and nature lovers alike. In winter, the Elephant Seal Rookery draws visitors eager to witness the birthing of seal pups on sandy shores. For those interested in history, Hearst Castle near San Simeon offers opulent tours that showcase the extravagant lifestyle of William Randolph Hearst. Meanwhile, Morro Bay provides a picturesque overnight stop where visitors can enjoy local seafood and watch sea otters play in the bay. Don't miss a visit to Solvang, a unique Danish village that delights visitors with its half-timbered buildings and delicious pastries, perfect for fueling your road trip adventure. Other honorable mentions on this iconic route include San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara, and Monterey, each offering unique attractions and stunning landscapes. Whether you're seeking adventure or relaxation, HWY 1 is sure to provide an unforgettable experience.
