Our recent long weekend at Dillon Beach, CA, truly cemented its spot as our favorite Northern California escape, especially with two toddlers in tow! Staying right at Dillon Beach Resort was a game-changer. Waking up to those incredible ocean views from our window, watching the waves roll in, and then having the beach practically on our doorstep made every morning feel magical. For families, the resort offers such a comfortable and convenient base for exploring. We loved how easy it was to just step out and be on the sand, perfect for little ones who are always eager to play and collect unique sand dollars. The proximity of the resort to the beach meant less hauling gear and more spontaneous fun. The entire atmosphere just encourages a slow, simple weekend, which was exactly what we needed. Beyond the resort's immediate charm, there's surprisingly a lot to keep you busy right in Dillon Beach, whether you're looking for relaxation or a bit of adventure. We spent hours just building sandcastles, searching for unique shells, and letting the kids splash in the gentle surf. The beach itself is stunning, offering ample space for everyone without feeling overcrowded, making it ideal for families. A trip to the Dillon Beach General Store is also a must – it’s a quaint spot to grab essentials, a warm coffee, or even some local treats to enjoy back at your cozy accommodation. It really adds to the small-town, rustic charm of the area and is a hub for local information. For a bit of indoor fun, especially if the weather isn't perfect, we even found a small arcade nearby where we enjoyed some classic pinball games! If you're wondering what to do in Dillon Beach, CA, and want to explore a bit further, the surrounding areas offer even more delightful experiences. We discovered that a short drive opens up a world of charming towns, perfect for a day trip or an afternoon excursion. For instance, Tomales offers a glimpse into historic California ranching country with its picturesque landscapes and antique shops. Just a bit further, Sebastopol is known for its vibrant arts scene, quirky boutiques, and delicious farm-to-table dining experiences – perfect for an afternoon stroll and a tasty meal. Another absolute gem is Bodega Bay, famous for its stunning harbor, fresh seafood restaurants, and opportunities for whale watching or crabbing. It’s a fantastic spot for lunch with a view or simply enjoying the coastal breeze. And for nature lovers, Point Reyes National Seashore is absolutely unmissable. We spent a day exploring parts of it, taking in breathtaking hikes, spotting diverse wildlife like tule elk and various bird species, and visiting the iconic Point Reyes Lighthouse. The dramatic cliffs and expansive ocean views are truly unforgettable. Lastly, the small town of Occidental provides a charming artsy vibe tucked away in the redwood forests, offering a different kind of natural beauty and unique shops. Each of these spots, easily accessible from Dillon Beach, allowed us to customize our long weekend, mixing relaxing beach days with cultural immersion and natural exploration. Dillon Beach truly offers the best of both worlds for a memorable family getaway, earning our 10/10 recommendation!
