However, with the upcoming July 8, 2026 rule changes, it’s essential to stay informed to avoid any unpleasant surprises. One significant update is that guests must now be booked on the exact same flight as the primary cardholder to gain access. This means that travel companions on separate itineraries, even if they travel together, might no longer be admitted. From my experience, coordinating travel plans closely with your guests is crucial under these new regulations. Another important factor is the new fee structure. Most Platinum cardholders will now pay $50 per adult guest and $30 per child aged 2-17, which can add up quickly if traveling with a family. Complimentary guest access only kicks in after reaching $75,000 in annual card spending, which is a steep threshold. Moreover, adding a Platinum Authorized User card at $195 per year can be a cost-effective workaround for regular travel companions, offering lounge access without guest fees and bypassing the same-flight restriction. I also learned the hard way that the free Companion Platinum Card does not grant lounge access. Many travelers aren’t aware of this nuance, so double-checking the lounge access privileges on each card can save time and disappointment at the lounge entrance. Amex made these changes partly due to increased cardholder numbers and growing lounge crowding. The intention is to preserve the quality and exclusivity of the Centurion Lounge experience, which is something I deeply appreciate. Additionally, if you have layovers, note that you can enter a Centurion Lounge up to five hours before your connecting flight, giving you flexibility and a chance to relax longer. Otherwise, access is permitted three hours before your departure. From my perspective, these new rules heighten the importance of planning ahead.
