What are your thoughts on creatine?

After A LOT of research, I decided to start taking creatine to help me reach my goals for this year of gaining muscle mass and getting leaner.

So far I haven’t seen really significant results— maybe a little cognitive clarity but I also haven’t seen any negative results. So I will keep taking it and see what happens!

A little about creatine:

-Your body naturally breaks down creatine (as it’s in lots of meat)

-Creatine monohydrate is what you should look for— you don’t need any of the other special add ins

-Creatine is a pretty cheap supplement

-Timing of creatine consumption doesn’t really matter

-While it was originally a concern for kidney function, there is no supporting research that suggests there are any negative effects. However, it can affect your bloodwork so be sure to let your dr know you take it if you are having bloodwork done

It’s easy to mix into a number of things since it is unflavored but I usually mix it in a drink with other drink packets or supplements!

... Read moreWhen I first started digging into creatine, my main goal was to boost my resistance training results. I was hitting the gym regularly, but felt like I needed an extra edge for muscle gain and strength. Creatine works by rapidly replenishing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in your muscle cells, which is essentially your body's primary energy currency for short, intense bursts of activity – think lifting weights or sprinting. This means that with creatine, you can often push out an extra rep or two, or lift slightly heavier for a few more sets, leading to greater training volume and, over time, increased muscle protein synthesis and strength gains. I’ve personally been focusing on progressive overload in my workouts, and I’m really hoping creatine helps me break through some of those plateaus I’ve been hitting. It’s not just about lifting heavier, it’s about optimizing every single workout for maximum benefit. Beyond the physical benefits, I was genuinely fascinated by its potential cognitive advantages, especially after noticing that initial 'little cognitive clarity.' Many research papers and studies on 'creatine supplementation cognitive performance' suggest that creatine can actually enhance brain function, particularly memory, focus, and overall cognitive processing, especially beneficial in situations of mental fatigue, stress, or even 'sleep deprivation'. For someone like me who sometimes struggles with getting consistent, quality sleep, the idea that creatine could help mitigate the mental fog associated with lack of rest was a huge draw. It's believed to support brain energy metabolism, much like it does for muscles, helping neurons function more efficiently. While I haven't tracked it formally with a study, that subtle boost in mental sharpness during my busy days has been a welcome addition. Regarding choosing the right creatine, the article rightly pointed out that 'creatine monohydrate is what you should look for,' and my research fully supports this. Brands like 'Sixstar 100% Creatine Monohydrate,' which the OCR picked up on, exemplify that simple is often best. You really don't need expensive blends with extra additives, as monohydrate is by far the most researched, effective, and cost-effective form available. For dosage, the common practice is a loading phase of 20g per day for 5-7 days (split into 4 smaller doses), followed by a maintenance phase of 3-5g daily. While some queries might ask 'what is a high dose of creatine,' sticking to these well-established guidelines ensures effectiveness without venturing into unnecessary risks. The article also mentioned that 'timing of creatine consumption doesn’t really matter,' and while some prefer pre or post-workout, consistency is truly key. Just make sure you take it daily! One important note: creatine does pull water into your muscle cells, which is part of how it works. This means staying extremely hydrated is crucial to avoid any potential discomfort or mild stomach issues, though these are typically rare. It's been interesting to see the overall 'effects of creatine supplementation' firsthand. While it's not a magic bullet, it’s certainly a well-researched and affordable supplement that supports both physical performance and mental acuity. Its unflavored nature makes it incredibly versatile, easily mixing into anything from water to my favorite post-workout shake, as the OCR image showing 'HOW I CONSUME IT' suggests. It's definitely becoming a wellness essential for my ongoing fitness journey, and I’m excited to keep tracking my progress and share more insights.
