How do you get 10,000 steps in?
I used to never worry about this because I had no problem, but when I started working from home I started to notice that I wasn’t getting even close to 10,000 steps in.
One of my main goals this year has been to fix that… and here’s some things that have helped me
🚶🏼♀️ my walking pad— I absolutely love this thing and it has helped me a ton. I walk while I read, check emails, watch tv, etc. And fun fact— I used gift cards that I had won on lemon8 to buy this one! This has definitely been my favorite #wellnessessentials that I have purchased this year so far
🚶🏼♀️ walking me dogs— if I do this in the morning it helps me get time outside, get steps in early, and helps my dogs get some energy out!
🚶🏼♀️ walking places with a view— this helps me stay more motivated to walk and I get to enjoy nature more!
What are your practical tips for getting your steps in?
It's amazing how quickly your step count can drop when your routine changes, especially with remote work! Many of us aim for that 10,000 steps goal, but what does it really mean, and how can we truly make it happen for lasting health and even weight loss? First off, let's demystify those 10,000 steps. For most people, 10,000 steps translates to about 4 to 5 miles (approximately 6.4 to 8 kilometers)! This isn't just a number; it's a solid chunk of daily activity that contributes significantly to your overall well-being. Thinking of it in miles often makes it feel more achievable, like a short walk or a couple of longer strolls. The benefits of hitting 10,000 steps daily extend far beyond just shedding a few pounds. While consistent walking is fantastic for weight loss by burning calories and improving metabolism, it also does wonders for your cardiovascular health, strengthens your muscles, and can significantly boost your mood. I've personally noticed a huge difference in my energy levels and mental clarity on days I prioritize my steps. It's like a natural stress reliever! You might not see a dramatic "before and after" overnight, but the cumulative effect on your body composition and overall fitness is undeniable over weeks and months. Imagine feeling more energized, sleeping better, and seeing those small, positive changes add up! So, you've got your walking pad ready, you're excited to walk your dogs, and you've found some scenic places – those are fantastic starts! But let's brainstorm a few more ways to weave steps into your day, especially if you're stuck at home or in an office: Morning Movement: Instead of just rolling out of bed, try doing a short 10-15 minute walk around your house or garden while your coffee brews. Even light stretches and walking around your kitchen count! Workday Wonders: If you have calls, try taking them standing up or even pacing around. Set a timer to get up and walk for 5 minutes every hour. Consider parking a bit further away if you commute, or always opt for the stairs instead of the elevator. A quick walk during your lunch break can break up the day beautifully. Active Chores: Turn household tasks into a workout! Walking while tidying up, doing laundry, or even some active gardening can add significant steps. Evening Strolls: A post-dinner walk isn't just good for digestion; it's a lovely way to wind down and add those last few hundred or thousand steps. Social Steps: Instead of meeting friends for coffee, suggest a walk in a park or along a scenic route. It's a great way to catch up and move! Track Your Progress: Use a fitness tracker or a step-counting app on your phone. Seeing those numbers climb can be incredibly motivating and helps you identify where you can squeeze in more activity. I love looking at my daily totals and pushing myself a little further each day. Remember, it's about consistency, not perfection. Every step adds up, and finding ways to make movement enjoyable, whether it's on your walking pad, exploring with your beloved dogs, or soaking in a beautiful view, is key to making 10,000 steps a sustainable and beneficial part of your life.
