... Read moreHey everyone! Since my last post about the 2015 Audi S5 oil change, I've had a few questions and wanted to dive a bit deeper into the process, especially for those of you thinking about doing it yourself. It's a super rewarding project, and honestly, it can save you a pretty penny compared to dealership prices, plus you get to know your ride better! First off, let's talk about what you'll absolutely need. For the 2015 S5 (B8.5 chassis), the engine typically takes around 6.9 quarts of 5W-40 or 5W-30 synthetic oil that meets VW 502 00/505 00 or VW 504 00/507 00 specifications. Don't skimp on this – using the right oil is crucial for your engine's longevity and performance. You'll also need a new oil filter; I usually go for reputable brands like Mann or Mahle. And remember that drain plug I mentioned in my original post? Many kits now come with an updated, often plastic, drain plug that includes a new O-ring, making replacement super easy and leak-proof. If your kit doesn't, make sure to get a new crush washer for your metal drain plug. Tools-wise, gather your socket set, an oil filter wrench (the cap-style ones work best for the S5's cartridge filter housing, typically a 32mm socket), a torque wrench (essential for not overtightening!), a decent-sized oil drain pan, a funnel, and most importantly, a jack and jack stands or sturdy car ramps for safe lifting. Safety first, always! Now, for the steps. I like to run the engine for about 5-10 minutes beforehand to warm up the oil – it helps it drain more thoroughly. Once the car is safely lifted, locate the drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan. Pro tip: have your drain pan ready and positioned correctly before you loosen it! Once the old oil is draining, move on to the oil filter housing, usually found on top of the engine, often near the front. Unscrew the cap, remove the old filter element, and clean the housing. Pop in your new filter and replace the O-rings that usually come with the new filter kit – don't forget the small one on the filter stem! After the oil has completely drained (give it a good 15-20 minutes to drip out), install your new drain plug (or old one with a new crush washer) and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque – this is where the torque wrench is your best friend! Lastly, lower the car, remove the oil cap, and slowly pour in the new oil using your funnel. Start with about 6.5 quarts, then check the MMI system for the oil level. Add more if needed, little by little, until it's at the correct mark. Don't forget to reset your service reminder through the MMI or a diagnostic tool if you have one. And that's pretty much it! Remember to properly dispose of your used oil at an auto parts store or recycling center. It might seem like a lot, but taking care of your S5 like this is incredibly satisfying. Let me know if you have any other questions!
