Grace for the Girl in the Mirror

I have battled—hard—with showing myself grace. Not the polite kind of grace that looks good in quotes, but the messy, stubborn kind that has to be fought for every single day.

There are things I’ve carried that don’t make sense to the people around me. There are choices I wish I could take back. There are seasons that left me hollow and loud with shame. Sometimes I hear that quiet, cruel voice: you should’ve known better, you should’ve done better. And I believed it for a long time.

But here’s the truth I’m learning, slowly, like sunlight through cracked blinds: being human is not the opposite of being divine. You can fall apart and still be sacred. You can make mistakes and still be chosen. You can be tired and still be worthy.

Showing yourself grace isn’t about lowering your standards or ignoring growth — it’s about treating your heart the way God (or Love) treats you: patient, tender, unafraid to forgive. It’s about giving yourself the space to heal, to rest, to try again without a parade of past failures following your steps.

So today I’m choosing to whisper a different story to myself. Not the one that defines me by my worst day, but the one that sees my scars as proof I survived. Not the one that shrinks from who I am, but the one that says: you are human, you are holy, you are still becoming.
