I’ve experienced periods where small things would irritate me more than they should, from minor disruptions to simple conversations. It’s as if my patience thinned without me realizing why. This early irritability is a clear indicator that emotional overload is happening beneath the surface. Another symptom to watch for is feeling physically heavy or drained. It’s not just tiredness; it feels like your body is weighed down and rest doesn’t seem to restore your energy as it used to. Sleep might be restless, and your mind keeps racing even when you want it to calm down. Most women—and many men—are conditioned to push through these warning signs because of societal expectations or personal drive. However, ignoring these signals can lead to full burnout, which impacts mental health, productivity, and overall quality of life. Recognizing these signs early allows you to adopt healthier habits like setting boundaries, practicing mindfulness, and prioritizing self-care. Personally, integrating short breaks during the workday and maintaining a journal to track my emotional state helped me become more aware and proactive. Understanding and naming these symptoms empowers you to take control before burnout fully develops. Reflect on which of these signs first show up for you and consider seeking support from friends, family, or professionals to build resilience and maintain your well-being.
