my very expensive new addiction

🛍Brand: Poppi

I've been drinking Poppi for the past month, and I can very well say I have an addiction. With it being a healthy alternative to regular pops, I don't have the guilt of drinking as many as I do.

However, Poppi is also more expensive, being at almost $2.50/can.

A review of every flavor I've tried will be coming soon.

... Read moreYou know, when I first started my Poppi journey, the thrill of finding a genuinely tasty and healthy soda alternative completely overshadowed the price tag. But after a month of treating myself to these bubbly delights, I totally get why 'expensive soda' is a common search query. At around $2.50 a can, Poppi definitely isn't your average budget-friendly refreshment. So, what makes it so pricey, and is it truly worth dishing out the extra cash? From my perspective, a big part of it comes down to the ingredients and what Poppi aims to be. Unlike conventional sodas loaded with artificial sweeteners and high-fructose corn syrup, Poppi prides itself on using natural fruit juices, fresh apple cider vinegar (that's where the prebiotics come in!), and only a few grams of sugar. For instance, the popular orange and purple cans I usually grab both have 5g of sugar, and I've seen the blue one listed at 4g – a stark contrast to the 30-40g you'd find in a typical can of pop. These premium, functional ingredients simply cost more to source and incorporate. Plus, they're not just selling a soda; they're selling a wellness drink, a 'healthy habit' as I like to call it, and that often comes with a higher market value. The sleek, colorful cans themselves, like the vibrant orange, purple, and blue ones I often see, also hint at a brand that invests in its aesthetic and market positioning. Now, the big question: is it worth the expense? For me, yes, mostly. I’ve noticed a slight improvement in my digestion, and more importantly, I don't get that sugary crash or the guilt associated with regular soda. It's become my little treat, something I genuinely look forward to. I’ve tried other probiotic drinks, but Poppi just hits different with its flavor profiles. It's like comparing a craft beer to a mass-produced lager – you're paying for the quality, the unique taste, and the added benefits. However, being an 'expensive addiction' means I've had to get smart about how I buy and consume it. Here are some of my go-to strategies to keep my Poppi habit from completely emptying my wallet: Bulk Buying is Your Best Friend: I've found that buying larger packs, especially from stores like Costco or through online subscriptions, significantly brings down the per-can cost. Keep an eye out for those deals! Coupon Hunting: Don't underestimate grocery store apps or websites. I often find digital coupons for Poppi, which can shave off a few dollars, making a huge difference in the long run. Strategic Sipping: Instead of guzzling a whole can in one go, sometimes I'll pour half into a glass with ice and save the rest for later. Or, I’ll even mix it with plain sparkling water to extend the flavor and make it a lighter drink. It helps stretch those expensive cans further. Treat, Not Staple: I try to view Poppi as a special treat rather than an everyday staple. This helps me appreciate each sip more and prevents me from over-consuming, both for my budget and for maintaining its 'special' status. Explore Alternatives (Occasionally): While nothing quite replaces Poppi for me, on days I want something bubbly but don't want to spend the money, I might opt for plain sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon or lime, or even a homemade apple cider vinegar concoction (though it’s never quite the same!). Ultimately, Poppi is a premium product in the sparkling beverage market. For me, the health benefits, the delicious flavors, and the fact that it satisfies my soda craving without the negatives, make it a worthwhile splurge. It’s an investment in a healthier, happier me, even if it is a bit of an expensive one!
