Editting

Lately, most of my time has been spent in this folder.

Editing is a very different rhythm than writing. The ideas are already there — now it’s about refining them, tightening the stories, and making sure every chapter actually says what it’s supposed to say.

It’s amazing how many drafts something goes through before it starts to feel right.

Read.

Rethink.

Rewrite.

Type.

Repeat.

Some days it feels like small adjustments. Other days entire sections shift after one more pass through the manuscript. But that’s the work of editing.

Quiet focus. Lots of coffee. And more time staring at a blinking cursor than anyone would probably guess.

Typing away has definitely become the rhythm lately.Something is taking shape. 🖤

... Read moreEditing is often an underappreciated yet critical step in the journey of writing. From my personal experience, editing feels like sculpting with words—instead of creating something new, you're honing what already exists to its finest form. Each draft serves as a layer of polishing, where mistakes are caught and the story's flow is enhanced. One key lesson I've learned is the importance of taking breaks during editing. Stepping away from the manuscript allows you to return with fresh eyes, making it easier to spot inconsistencies or areas that need tightening. Additionally, reading the text aloud can uncover awkward phrasing or rhythms that disrupt the reader’s experience. Using tools like a dedicated folder system, as indicated by labels such as 'Book_Manuscript' and 'Client Folders' seen in my workspace, helps keep versions organized and makes tracking changes more manageable. Having coffee nearby becomes part of the ritual—fueling those long hours spent staring at the blinking cursor. The mental rhythm of editing is distinctive; some days progress with minor tweaks, while others bring significant restructuring. However, every pass through the text brings the story closer to a shape that feels right. Embracing this iterative process and maintaining patience ultimately leads to a manuscript that not only communicates its message clearly but resonates emotionally with readers.
