more crochet book sleeves!! ๐งถ
Crocheting book sleeves has me in a chokehold rn
I made four more sleeves that arenโt just a normal granny square!! These were all so fun to work up and didnโt take long at all. The solid granny square sleeve is perfect for beginners, and the other three are great if you want a project thatโs a little more challenging!
I included the yarn used for each, as well as its weight and the hook size i used! (Spoiler..Iโm loyal to my 4.5mm so thatโs what i used for all of them ๐คซ)
Check out my first post on crochet book sleeves for a tutorial on how to join your corners and add a strap! Happy crocheting!! ๐ค ๐งถ๐ชก

Ever since I discovered the joy of crocheting book sleeves, my books have never looked happier โ or been better protected! Itโs such a rewarding project, especially when you can customize every detail. I've found that a handmade crochet book sleeve isn't just practical; it adds so much personality to your reading experience, and they make incredible gifts too! For those of you who, like me, are captivated by granny squares, there's a whole world beyond the basic square. While my solid granny square sleeve was a fantastic starting point for beginners, don't be afraid to branch out! The diamond granny square and pinwheel granny square patterns I linked are brilliant for adding a touch of elegance and visual interest. Learning to join your squares seamlessly, perhaps using a mattress stitch for a clean finish, can truly elevate your handmade book sleeve. You can even experiment with different color combinations using yarns like the vibrant Red Heart Super Saver, or the softer Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek, which are both staples in my stash. Choosing the right yarn makes a huge difference. I often gravitate towards a 4.5mm hook, which gives a nice, tight fabric for durability, but always check your pattern's recommendation. For these sleeves, I've used various worsted weight yarns like Red Heart Super Saver for its durability and wide color range. For a softer feel, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek is wonderful, and for a more natural look, Queensland Coastal Cotton offers a lovely texture. Don't be afraid to experiment with different yarn weights โ just remember to adjust your hook size accordingly to maintain the desired fabric density. One of the most common questions I get is about sizing. How do you make sure your crochet book sleeve fits your specific book? Itโs all about measuring! Before you start, measure the height, width, and thickness of your book. For granny square patterns, you'll need to figure out how many rows or squares you need to cover the book. A good rule of thumb is to create a swatch first to determine your gauge. This way, you can easily adapt any pattern to fit a standard paperback, a chunky hardcover, or even a smaller journal. I often add a few extra rows or stitches for a snug but not too tight fit, allowing for a little stretch. Beyond the basic sleeve, consider adding little details to make your handmade book sleeve truly unique. A simple single crochet strap can be added for carrying, or you could sew on a button and loop closure for extra security. Imagine incorporating other motifs, like a subtle butterfly or a floral element, into your granny square design โ the possibilities are endless! Don't forget to check out my first post for more detailed tips on joining corners and adding straps. Happy crocheting, fellow bookworms!
