Hey fellow SAHMs! I know how much we cherish those indoor cuddles, but sometimes, both mama and baby just need a breath of fresh air. My little one is around 8-9 months, and I've found that getting outside isn't just a mood booster for me, but it's incredible for his development too. Those 'things to do with 8 month old outside' and 'outdoor activities for 9 month old' queries are always on my mind, so I wanted to share some of our favorite, super practical ways to explore the world beyond our front door! Why Outdoor Time is a Game-Changer for Babies (and Moms!) At this age, babies are little sponges, soaking up everything. Outdoor environments offer a rich tapestry of sights, sounds, and textures that indoor spaces just can't replicate. It boosts their sensory development, encourages gross motor skills like crawling and pulling up, and gives them a fantastic new perspective. Plus, for us mamas, it’s a wonderful change of scenery and a chance to recharge. My Go-To Outdoor Adventures for Your Little Explorer Scenic Park Strolls & Nature Walks: This is my absolute favorite. Grab the stroller or baby carrier and head to your local park. While on our park strolls, I love pointing out the trees, the flowers, and the sounds of birds. Let your baby touch a leaf (under supervision, of course!), feel the grass, or look up at the sky. Remember that amazing view of the tree canopy? It’s truly so much better than a ceiling fan! It's simple, free, and incredibly stimulating. Baby-Friendly Picnics & Play Dates: Who doesn't love a picnic/play date? Lay out a soft pink blanket in a shaded area of a park or even your backyard. Pack some baby-friendly snacks (like purees or soft finger foods for 9-month-olds), and let your little one enjoy supervised tummy time or practice sitting up while taking in the new surroundings. If you can, invite another parent and baby for some gentle social interaction! Exploring the Community Playground: Many community playgrounds have sections that are surprisingly baby-friendly. Look for areas with soft rubber flooring where your 8-9 month old can safely practice crawling. Some playgrounds have low swings designed for infants. Even just sitting on a bench and watching older kids play can be fascinating for them! Gentle Petting Zoo Visits: If you have a local farm or petting zoo nearby, it can be a wonderful, sensory-rich experience. Keep your baby in a carrier or stroller, allowing them to observe the animals from a safe distance. We saw a cow on our last trip, and my baby was captivated! Always ensure hygiene and supervise closely. Bubbles & Water Play: On a warm day, nothing beats bubbles & water play! Fill a shallow basin or a small, inflatable pool with a few inches of water in your backyard. Supervise them closely as they splash and play. Blowing bubbles can lead to endless giggles and helps with visual tracking. Just remember sun protection! Making Outings Easy: My Top Tips for Smooth Adventures Pack Smart: My diaper bag is always stocked with a hat, sunscreen, extra layers (weather can change!), snacks, water for me, and a small, beloved toy. Timing is Everything: I try to plan our outings around nap times and feeding schedules. A well-rested, fed baby makes for a happier outing! Be Flexible: Some days, your baby might just not be into it, and that’s okay! A short, sweet outing is better than a long, stressful one. Getting out there with your 8-9 month old doesn't have to be complicated. It’s all about creating new experiences and making those precious memories together. Happy adventuring, mamas!

Also, the pictures are sooo cute! The bubbles one especially 😍
