Do you have irregular periods?? Hormonal CHOAS!
Seed cycling is a natural wellness practice where you eat specific types of seeds during different phases of your menstrual cycle with the goal of supporting balanced hormones—especially estrogen and progesterone. While research is limited and it isn’t a medical treatment, many people use it as a gentle food-based approach to help with PMS, irregular cycles, or perimenopause symptoms.
Here’s how it’s typically done:
1. Follicular Phase (Day 1–14, starting on the first day of your period)
Seeds: Flax seeds + Pumpkin seeds
Reasoning: These seeds are rich in lignans (from flax) and zinc (from pumpkin), which are thought to support healthy estrogen production and metabolism.
2. Luteal Phase (Day 15–28, after ovulation until your next period)
Seeds: Sesame seeds + Sunflower seeds
Reasoning: Sesame provides more lignans, and sunflower is high in selenium and vitamin E, which are linked to progesterone support.
Typical routine:
• 1 tablespoon of each seed per day (freshly ground flax for best absorption).
• You can sprinkle them on oatmeal, smoothies, salads, or mix into yogurt.
I find that it is simple and easy to add seeds to my daily meals!
What’s your favorite way to sneak flax or pumpkin seeds into snacks or breakfasts?
Do you track your menstrual phases already, or would switching seeds each half of the month feel overwhelming?
