From my experience, those nights are a constant cycle of comforting, cleaning, and worrying. The virus causes painful sores and fever, so it’s heartbreaking to see your little ones struggle to eat, drink, and sleep. One thing I learned is how crucial it is to keep them hydrated and to manage their fever with kid-safe medications. Beyond the physical symptoms, the emotional toll on both the kids and me was big. Kids can be irritable and clingy, and it’s so hard to keep your own stress at bay. I found that staying calm and creating a soothing environment helped them feel safer. Soft foods, frequent hand washing, and isolating them from other children when possible helped prevent the spread. As a mom of two, juggling the needs of both children meant being on my toes all night, especially if both were affected. Having some routine, like quiet storytelling or gentle music before bed, provided some comfort in a difficult time. While it’s exhausting, going through this together strengthened our bond and gave me a deeper appreciation for the resilience of little ones facing illness. Remember, HFMD usually passes within a week or so, but supportive care makes a big difference. Sharing my night with two kids suffering from HFMD hopefully helps other parents feel less alone during those tough nights.
