Quarrelsome wife ? ❤️🩹
People often point to the verse about a “quarrelsome wife” (Proverbs 21:9).
But what about when the husband is the one causing the pain?
The neglect.
The betrayal.
The harsh words.
The abuse.
God’s Word does not and never will make excuses for this.
Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church & gave Himself up for her.
A husband is called to lay down his life in love for his wife & not tear his wife down with sin.
Colossians 3:19
Husbands love your wives & do not be harsh with them.
Harshness, cruelty, & neglect go directly against God’s commands for marriage.
1 Peter 3:7
Husbands live with your wives in an understanding way so that your prayers may not be hindered.
God Himself refuses to ignore the way a man treats his wife‼️
Malachi 2:16
For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her covers his garment with violence.
Unfaithfulness & betrayal are violence in God’s eyes.
-A wife’s cry of pain is not quarreling.
-A husband’s sin is not overlooked.
-God’s Word holds men accountable to love, honor, & protect their wives with their lives & when a man refuses this calling from God he stands in direct disobedience to God.
Marriage is a sacred covenant where both husband and wife are called to mutual love and respect. While Proverbs 21:9 mentions a "quarrelsome wife," it is crucial to understand that the Bible places equal responsibility on husbands to treat their wives with kindness and selfless love. The apostle Paul emphasizes in Ephesians 5:28, "So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself," reminding husbands that caring for their wives is an extension of loving themselves. Unfortunately, when a husband neglects his wife, uses harsh words, or is unfaithful, it causes deep emotional wounds that are not excusable by scripture. The verses in Colossians 3:19 and 1 Peter 3:7 instruct husbands not to be harsh but to live thoughtfully with their wives, fostering understanding rather than conflict. Such treatment directly opposes God's commands for a healthy marriage relationship. Moreover, Malachi 2:16 condemns divorce done out of hatred or violence and highlights that betrayal and unfaithfulness are spiritual violence in God's eyes. A wife's expression of pain from mistreatment is not mere quarreling but a call for love and restoration. Husbands ignoring this call stand in disobedience to God's clear will. In today’s context, recognizing these scriptural teachings helps couples build marriages founded on respect, empathy, and sacrificial love. Promoting open communication and seeking counsel when conflicts arise can prevent harmful patterns. Ultimately, a husband’s role as protector and lover, modeled after Christ’s love for the church, serves as the highest standard for marriage conduct and healing for any pain caused.
