How I became an Oversupplier🫶✨
✨Here’s how I was able to generate an oversupply as a first-time mom—other than eating and keeping hydrated!
✨After we got transferred from L&D to the recovery room, my nurse provided a pump for me to start pumping if I wanted to. I would pump right after nursing my daughter, even though my milk hadn’t come in yet.
✨I hand-expressed colostrum while I was 37 weeks pregnant and was able to fill 100 syringes (1 mL each syringe). I brought the colostrum to the hospital, and that’s what my baby fed on for 3 days until my milk came in.🤞
✨After my milk came in, I was pumping every 2–3 hours around the clock! It was hard, but I was super engorged, so I didn’t have a choice. I basically demanded my body to produce an oversupply.🤩

One key aspect I discovered on my journey to becoming an oversupplier was the importance of frequent pumping sessions, especially during the first few weeks postpartum. Pumping every 2-3 hours around the clock really helped stimulate my body to produce more milk. It might feel challenging at first, but consistency is crucial. Another helpful tip is hand expressing colostrum during late pregnancy. I managed to collect enough to feed my baby for the first few days when my milk hadn’t fully come in yet. This gave my newborn a great start and eased some initial feeding worries. Staying hydrated and maintaining good nutrition were also essential parts of my routine. Drinking plenty of water and eating balanced meals gave my body the fuel it needed to keep milk production high. Lastly, involving your partner in the feeding routine can be a huge support. My husband’s help in bottle feeding pumped milk made the process smoother and allowed me to rest when needed. Sharing feedings also helped strengthen family bonds. If you plan to store breast milk, remember to warm it gently from the fridge or freezer. Avoid microwaving to preserve nutrients and prevent uneven heating. Simply warm the bottle in a bowl of warm water or use a bottle warmer. Being an oversupplier requires dedication, but with patience and the right practices, you can successfully meet your baby’s needs and even build a valuable milk reserve.
