I wanted a calm, organized home.
Instead I got poop on my legs and a toddler doing acrobatics off the toilet.
Motherhood is humbling. 😅
Potty training is often portrayed as a milestone filled with pride and sweet moments, but anyone who's lived through it knows the reality can be quite different and, frankly, chaotic. As an ADHD mom of four, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges making what should be a routine process anything but calm or organized. Instead of a peaceful home, there’s often what feels like circus acrobatics happening right in the bathroom—and yes, sometimes bodily accidents end up in the most unexpected places, like on your own legs. One thing I’ve learned is that patience is not just a virtue but a necessity. Toddlers testing boundaries on the toilet is a common scene; they mimic acrobatics or try to escape, making potty training a physically demanding task for parents. Setting realistic expectations and embracing the mess as part of the journey helps manage stress. It’s also helpful to create a consistent routine and use positive reinforcement, but even then, setbacks happen. For moms dealing with additional challenges like ADHD, multitasking during potty training can be overwhelming. The key is to break tasks into smaller steps, keep supplies handy to clean up quickly, and maintain a sense of humor about the situation. Connecting with online communities or forums like #mommaci and #momlife can offer support and validation. Sharing these messy moments reminds us we’re not alone and that motherhood, in all its imperfect glory, builds resilience and a deep bond with our children.
