For the longest time, I thought creative people eventually reached a point where they had it all figured out.
Spoiler Alert: Not. Never. 🤣
You know… the point where they stop making mistakes,
stop second-guessing themselves, and magically create perfect pages every time. It turns out, that’s not a thing. 😆 Hahahaha. Seriously. It’s not. I’m still going through it.
I have been creating, teaching, and filling my journals for years, and I’m still learning new things every single day. Different mediums, different art style. Every single one takes me on a different journey. ❤️
I’ve also learned that most people are way harder on themselves than they need to be. It’s okay, because trust me, no one does it more than me. But why do we it to ourselves? We, adults are so good at it. Giving ourselves a hard time, like, all. The. Time. 😩😭

I found that one of the biggest hurdles was overcoming the fear of making mistakes. Like many, I once believed that experienced artists had it all figured out—creating flawless pieces without hesitation. But as I delved deeper into my own artistic practice, I realized that mistakes are not only inevitable but essential to growth.
One lesson I've learned is that nobody is judging your work nearly as harshly as you judge yourself. Most people are too immersed in their own creative processes to focus on critiquing others. This understanding helped me release the perfectionism that often held me back.
Moreover, the dreaded blank page, that seemingly insurmountable obstacle, is really just an invitation to explore and experiment. Instead of overthinking and fearing failure, I started viewing each blank spread as a playground for new ideas. Different mediums and art styles brought fresh excitement and kept my creativity alive.
It’s also important to recognize that the goal might not be to become perfect in art, but to keep creating consistently. This mindset shift transformed my journaling and art from stress-inducing tasks into joyful practices where learning and self-expression take precedence.
If you’re struggling with self-doubt or feeling stuck in your creative journey, remember: every artist’s path is unique, full of twists and growth opportunities. Surround yourself with a supportive community, embrace your mistakes as stepping stones, and keep filling your pages. The most rewarding part is the ongoing journey itself, not the destination.
