PMS thoughts.

I’m hormonal right now, and maybe that’s why I had pie for breakfast because sometimes sugar and vulnerability go hand in hand. I feel it deep in my bones the PMS, the ache, the heightened sensitivity that makes me doubt everything I put on the page. As I write, I hear them the publishers, the agents their imaginary voices critiquing every word, deciding in thirty seconds if I’m talented enough, marketable enough, readable enough. And I realize how poisonous that is to think about as I’m writing and how it steals the magic. The truth is, I don’t write for them. I write for the story, for the untouchable pulse at its center. If I guard that, if I let it breathe untouched, the right people will find it. Gatekeepers do not get to shape this. #author #writer #novel #writing

... Read moreWriting during periods of emotional vulnerability like PMS can be incredibly challenging, yet it also offers a unique window into one’s creativity. Many writers experience heightened sensitivity which can amplify self-doubt and anxieties about how others perceive their work, often imagining the harsh judgments of publishers or agents. However, this emotional state can also deepen the connection to the story’s core — that 'untouchable pulse' that drives authentic storytelling. From personal experience, embracing these fluctuations rather than fighting them has led to breakthroughs in creative expression. I’ve noticed that when I stop trying to appease imagined critics and focus solely on the story’s heartbeat, the writing flows more freely and feels more genuine. Sometimes, small comforts like indulging in a piece of pie or a quiet moment with a comforting ritual can ease the emotional tension enough to allow ideas to emerge. It’s essential to acknowledge that external gatekeepers don’t own the story you’re telling — your unique perspective and voice are what truly matter. When you protect that spark and let it breathe, the right readers and opportunities tend to surface naturally. Writing with vulnerability is not just about channeling emotions but about trusting your instincts and honoring your authentic voice, especially in moments of self-doubt intensified by hormonal changes. For anyone who faces similar struggles, remember that these emotional waves are temporary but your creativity is enduring. Use moments of heightened sensitivity as a tool to deepen your narrative rather than as a barrier. Writing is a personal journey, and letting go of the fear of judgment can unlock a powerful and honest voice that resonates beyond the page.
