1L Reflections - First Reading Week

📚Finish Outlines ASAP

- I finished mine at the beginning of reading week and it made it so much easier to sort through material as I began to memorize for the exam

📚 Active Recall Saved Me

- Law school is extremely demanding and your professors expect you to manage an insane amount of material. Writing things out over and over and talking about them continuously was the only way I managed to memorize enough.

- This was an adjustment for me because I’m usually more of a quizlet/ practice test studier

📚Take Breaks/ Take Care of Yourself

- Reading period sucked (at least for me). Its ok to take breaks! Relax, unwind, and turn your brain off for a bit, then jump back in.

📚 Practice Questions

- Quimbee, Adaptibar, Bar websites, and your textbook are great places to find practice questions! They really helped me test my knowledge and understanding, even when I had yet to finish memorizing.

📚Know Yourself/ Your Habits

- My study partner and I are early risers and so productive in the morning. We often woke up early and went to bed by 9/10 at the latest.

- Having a set schedule really helped manage stress!

... Read moreThe transition to law school can be overwhelming, especially during reading weeks. Developing a structured study routine is crucial. Begin by completing your outlines early; this approach not only organizes your materials but also helps in memorizing key concepts efficiently. Utilizing active recall is another game changer. Rather than simply reviewing notes, engage with the material by summarizing information aloud, teaching it to a peer, or writing it down repeatedly. This method enhances memory retention, helping you tackle the extensive syllabus of law. Remember to incorporate regular breaks into your study sessions. Taking time to relax and recharge mitigates stress and boosts overall productivity. Self-care during intense periods is often overlooked but is vital for maintaining focus. Moreover, practice questions are invaluable resources. Explore platforms like Quimbee and Adaptibar, which provide a diverse range of practice scenarios that reinforce your learning while allowing you to gauge your understanding. Lastly, knowing your productive hours can greatly affect your efficiency. If mornings work best for you, align your studying during those times to maximize focus and minimize distractions. Adjusting your study habits to fit your natural rhythms leads to a more fruitful reading week experience.
