I HATE COLLEGE

I’ve never felt more alone than I do now. I don’t feel like I belong here, I’m struggling to make friends, I wake up miserable almost every single day, I miss babysitting and having a pretty stable job, and sometimes I can’t force myself to do my laundry, study, or go out anymore.

... Read moreIt’s a feeling I know all too well – that deep pit in your stomach when you wake up and realize you’re still here, at college, and you just... hate it. I remember seeing a picture of someone sitting on a purple couch, headphones on, with text saying “I actually HATE COLLEGE,” and it hit me hard because that's exactly how I've felt. It’s not just about missing home or struggling with classes; it's an all-encompassing sense of not belonging, of being utterly alone in a crowd of thousands. Making friends in college? It feels like trying to crack a secret code. Everyone seems to have their groups already, or they're just focused on their studies, and approaching people feels like a huge mountain to climb. I used to think I was good at meeting people, but here, it’s different. The pressure to be constantly 'on' and social is exhausting, especially when you're already feeling down. Sometimes, all I want is to curl up with a comforting mug – maybe one with a cheerful Snoopy on it, like the one I saw once – and just escape. And the motivation? Gone. Completely. I used to be so organized, but now, the thought of doing laundry or tackling another assignment feels impossible. It’s a vicious cycle: you feel miserable, so you don't do things, and then not doing things makes you feel even more miserable. The academic workload can be overwhelming, and it’s hard to find the drive when your emotional battery is constantly drained. What I've realized, through my own struggles, is that these feelings, while incredibly isolating, are also incredibly common. You're not the only one staring at your ceiling at 3 AM, wondering if you made the wrong choice. Many of us grapple with homesickness, anxiety about the future, and the sheer difficulty of adjusting to a completely new environment. It’s okay to acknowledge that this isn't the 'best years of your life' experience everyone talks about. So, what can we do when we genuinely hate college? It’s tough, and there's no magic fix, but I've found a few tiny things that sometimes help me get through the day. Sometimes, it’s about finding small pockets of joy – a quiet corner in the library, a walk around campus, or just allowing myself to watch a favorite show without guilt. Reaching out, even just a text to a friend from home, can make a difference. And if the feeling persists and impacts your daily life significantly, remember that seeking support from campus counseling services is a sign of strength, not weakness. They are there to help navigate these overwhelming emotions. It's a journey, and some days are just about surviving, but know that you're not walking this path alone.

Making friends is the hardest part… doesn’t help I moved into an apartment where it’s just myself and my cat. It’ll get better, I have made acquaintances more than anything but I have like 2 good friends I’ve made since I started college.
