Topographic features seen on the Earth's crust are the result of global surface leveling, or Gradation, caused by the collision of forces inside and outside the Earth, such as plate tectonic forces or erosion from water, wind, and glaciers. Studying topography in opposite pairs allows us to clearly understand the balance in geological cycles.

- * * Peninsula: * * The land extends into the sea, surrounded by water on three sides, usually by the uplift of tectonic plates.

- * * Large bays: * * Concave water deep in the land, caused by plate subsidence.
