This Banana Cream Matcha Protein Shake Tastes Like Dessert but Fuels Your Day

Okay, this is one of the tastiest recipes I’ve ever developed. It tastes like banana cream pie, but it’s packed with protein and gives you that nice energy boost from the matcha. This one is going to be on repeat for me!

The banana softens the matcha, the vanilla makes it taste like banana cream, and somehow it ends up way better than a basic protein shake. It’s one of those things you make once and immediately want again. ✨

Make it 👇

1 cup milk of choice

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

1 teaspoon matcha powder

1/2 large frozen banana

2 tablespoons yogurt, dairy or plant-based

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey

1 cup ice

Add everything except the ice to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Add the ice, then blend again until thick and creamy.

Pour into a favorite glass and optionally top with a dollop of whipped cream.

Enjoy! 💚

Tips:

Use a super ripe banana for the best flavor.

Skip the sweetener if your protein powder is already sweet.

Add a little extra ice for an even thicker shake.

Top with whipped cream or a dusting of matcha if you want it to feel extra. 💚

Would you try matcha in a protein shake or is this a no for you?

... Read moreI’ve been making this banana cream matcha protein shake regularly, and it’s been a game changer for my morning routine. What I love about it is how versatile it is—you can swap milk types based on your dietary preference, and using a plant-based yogurt keeps it dairy-free yet creamy. The key is using a super ripe banana; it naturally sweetens the shake and balances the earthy bitterness of matcha powder perfectly. The protein component makes it ideal as a post-workout drink or even a mini meal replacement. I use vanilla protein powder, but sometimes I experiment with unflavored or different flavors to mix it up. The texture after blending with ice is thick and frosty, almost like a frozen dessert, so it really satisfies those sweet cravings without the guilt. One tip I’ve found helpful is to add a little extra vanilla extract for a more pronounced banana cream pie flavor, and a dusting of matcha powder on top not only looks beautiful but enhances the antioxidant benefits matcha offers. This shake is also great for busy days when you need something nutritious and energizing quickly. The combination of protein and matcha supports muscle recovery and provides a mindful caffeine boost without jitters common with coffee. Plus, incorporating natural sweeteners like maple syrup or honey allows you to control sugar levels. If you’re someone who’s hesitant about matcha’s taste, this recipe softens it wonderfully with banana and vanilla, making it very approachable. Whether you’re a matcha lover or new to it, this protein shake could easily become your go-to healthy treat.
