This is a common experience, whether you're dealing with missing teeth, new dentures, braces, or even just temporary dental appliances. These changes directly impact how our tongue, lips, and teeth interact to form sounds. For instance, pronouncing words clearly requires precise airflow and tongue placement. When you have gaps from missing teeth, or a new appliance changes the roof of your mouth, that airflow is altered. Your tongue might not have the right surface to press against, leading to whistles, lisping, or simply garbled words that sound like gibberish. It can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re trying to express yourself and feel misunderstood. So, what can help during this challenging phase? Based on my own experience and a bit of research, here are a few tips I’ve found useful: Practice Reading Aloud: Pick a book or an article and read it slowly, focusing on articulating each word. Pay special attention to sounds that are giving you trouble. This helps retrain your mouth muscles.
