I recently realised that I‘m a toxic friend
I came to the realisation that all my friendships have been one sided throughout my life. I've been lucky enough to have people around me that have given me second chances time and time again but its time to hold my self accountable and take responsibility for the shitty way i treat people.
Among other things, I'm going to stop doing is contacting my friends only when it's convenient for me. I've been the type of person to leave people on read for days and pretend I'd just read the message or I'd been constantly busy for the last 72 hours when I didn't need them. I'd ignore people's calls and never call back except for when I needed them. I've lost a lot of amazing friends because of this and I'm trying not to lose anymore.
Has anyone else come to the same realisation I'm their life? What have you done to improve?
Recognizing toxic behaviors in friendships is a crucial first step towards personal growth and healthier relationships. Many people experience one-sided friendships, often realizing it only when they face the repercussions, such as losing friends or feeling isolated. To address these issues, it's essential to reflect on past interactions and understand the impact of our behavior on others. Common signs of toxic friendships include neglecting communication, being unresponsive, and only reaching out when it suits us. To cultivate meaningful connections, consider taking proactive steps such as establishing regular check-ins with friends, actively listening to their needs, and being present during both good times and bad. Additionally, discussing feelings openly can foster mutual understanding and respect. Remember, it’s never too late to change and grow. Seek feedback from friends to improve your interactions and make a sincere effort to be there for them as they have been for you. By doing so, you not only strengthen your friendships but also build a support system that is more genuine and fulfilling. Have others shared their experiences of recognizing toxicity in their friendships?
