Bf plays video games all day long I’m so annoyed

Very simple situation. We live in a flat together, just us. All he does is play video games or watch streams all day. If I ask him to clean or cook, or to go out for a walk, he does all those things. However, if I don't, he'll just spend all day (or days) playing video games or watching other people play video games. I'm not exaggerating, he literally does nothing else.

I don't think I can tell him to stop playing video games because it's his only hobby and who am I to tell him what to do. What should I do?

From my experience, the key is to approach the situation with empathy and open communication rather than demands or ultimatums. First, try to engage him in his gaming hobby by asking about the games he plays or even watching streams together. This creates a chance to share an interest and shows that you care about what he enjoys. It can also soften the atmosphere when you suggest spending time doing other things. Second, set small, clear boundaries for both of you—for example, requesting that he pauses gaming for a meal together or a short walk around the block. These small changes signal that your time together matters without feeling like you’re trying to control him. Lastly, express how you feel using "I" statements rather than blaming language. For instance, say "I feel a bit lonely when you’re gaming most of the day," instead of "You never pay attention to me." This approach encourages understanding and mutual respect. Remember, video games are his main hobby, so it’s important to accept that part of him while finding ways to stay connected. Balance and patience go a long way in maintaining a happy relationship where both partners feel heard and valued.
