International Model💋
First post on Lemon8 😘
Hi everyone! As an international model, I'm so thrilled to finally share my thoughts here on Lemon8. My first post feels like a great opportunity to open up about something that's often talked about but rarely from an insider's perspective: the concept of 'zero size' in the modeling industry. When people hear 'zero size model,' it often conjures up a very specific image. In reality, 'zero size' refers to a clothing size, typically a US size 0 or 00, which corresponds to very small measurements. It's not necessarily about being 'zero' in terms of body mass, but about fitting into sample sizes provided by designers, which historically have been extremely small. From my experience, the pressure to fit these samples is immense, especially when you're starting out. Designers often create their collections around these specific measurements, meaning that if you don't fit, you simply can't wear the clothes for shows or shoots, regardless of how talented or beautiful you are. I’ve seen firsthand how this impacts models, myself included. It’s a constant battle with body image, self-esteem, and sometimes, even health. The industry is incredibly competitive, and the desire to succeed can drive some to extreme lengths. I remember feeling the constant need to monitor every single thing I ate and every workout, not just to be fit, but to maintain those specific measurements. It’s mentally exhausting and can strip away the joy of what should be a creative and empowering career. The conversation around 'zero size' has evolved, thankfully. There's a growing movement towards body positivity and inclusivity, which is something I deeply support. We're starting to see more diverse body types on runways and in campaigns, which is a huge step forward. Brands are slowly realizing that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and that their audience wants to see themselves reflected in fashion. However, breaking away from decades of established norms takes time. Sample sizes are still a major hurdle, and many models still face pressure to conform. My advice to aspiring models, or anyone feeling pressure to fit an unrealistic ideal, is to prioritize your health and mental well-being above all else. This industry can be tough, but your value isn't determined by a number on a clothing tag. Focus on being strong, healthy, and confident in your own skin. Find agencies and clients who celebrate your unique shape and don't push you towards unhealthy standards. It’s crucial to build a strong support system and remember that true beauty radiates from within, not from adhering to a 'zero size' ideal. I'm excited to share more of my journey and insights with you all!
