HELLP SYNDROME AWARENESS

Hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count.

I had a very discomforting and sometimes unbearable pain up high on my right side under my breast. (Front and back) My blood pressure was always fine at every doctor visit and I didn’t have a lot of blood work done during my pregnancy because it was a very easy low risk pregnancy. When getting closer to my due date, I started to get this pain that I knew wasn’t contractions but was so bad a couple times, I decided to go to the ER. They only checked my heart and lungs, and never did blood work. We all assumed this was pressure from the baby growing more. With a week left until my due date, I went home and barred the pain until my induction date. We came in as an elective induction with the plan of a very slow progressing labor. However, after only a few hours, my amazing nurse that night could tell something wasn’t right. My blood pressure was starting to rise so we checked some blood work to come to the realization it was HELLP SYNDROME which is closely related to preeclampsia. We ended up having a safe and successful delivery. 🩵

This was pretty scary for me so I want to share it for others to be cautious. If your gut tells you something isn’t right, listen to it. #preeclampsia #hellpsyndrome #pregnancyhealth
