... Read moreOh, you guys! Today was the final push, shift 4/4, and let me tell you, it was a marathon! But before I could even think about tackling the day, there's always that morning ritual. You know, the "Morning Fit Check" dance? Every nurse knows the struggle of finding comfy scrubs that still look professional. I always try to pair a fresh scrub top with my favorite bottoms – comfort is key when you're on your feet all day. It’s not just about looking good, it's UP! to feeling ready to take on whatever comes my way. Then comes the most crucial part of my morning: fueling up and packing all my survival gear! For a long shift like this, I can't stress enough how important it is to "Make & Pack lunch and Snacks!". I usually prep a healthy lunch the night before, something easy to grab. Today it was a big salad with chicken, and for snacks, I packed some fruit, nuts, and a protein bar. Trust me, mid-shift hunger is no joke, and those snacks are lifesavers when you don't have time for a proper break. CAN'T START THE DAY WITHOUT IT. Staying energized is non-negotiable! And of course, I always "GATHER ALL MY BAGS TOGETHER!" It's like a mission every morning. My lunch bag, my work bag with all my essentials (stethoscope, penlight, extra pens that actually work!), and yes, even my Gym Bag. Even after a grueling 12-hour shift, I try to squeeze in some exercise. It’s my way of de-stressing and getting that energy back. It’s all about having "ALL THE ESSENTIALS" to make it through. The "Work Fit Check! Shift 4/4" is that final look in the mirror before heading out. A quick mental check-in: Am I ready? Do I have everything? Am I hydrated? It’s a moment to mentally prepare for the challenges ahead, especially when it's the last shift of a long streak. You gotta be "OUT THE DOOR! RIGHT ON TIME" to avoid that pre-shift rush. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s real life as a nurse. Every morning is a GRWM routine that sets the tone for the entire day. And now that this shift is over, you bet I'm diving into cleaning my house and getting that much-needed workout in. The weekend has never felt so earned! What are your essential GRWM steps for a busy day?
