Anti Anxiety Gym Routine
The gym can honestly be an anxious place. These are the things I do to help calm me and use my gym time to my advantage of decreasing my anxiety.
I do my best to create and ideal environment. I get overwhelmed super easily. So I avoid taking pre workout before the gym, I don't want to get too hyped up and send my anxious self into a spiral. I choose to listen to an uplifting podcast instead of loud pump music. I choose something health and fitness related so I am interested but also surrounding myself with good information and motivating myself as well. This is calming to me to listen to people talk about stuff I love.
I also take my workouts slow and controlled. I do weight lifting and I try to increase time under tension for each rep. Not only does this really get a lot out of the exercise for your muscles but still allow your heart rate to get up, it just feels calming to me. I try my hardest to be present in the gym without thinking about other stressors in my life. When dealing with weights, you kind of have to pay attention, so that you don't get hurt! Focussing on this pushes anxious thoughts away.

The gym can be a daunting place for many, but it doesn’t have to be. Finding the right environment can make all the difference in managing anxiety. Consider establishing a calming routine by allowing yourself time to adjust to the gym's atmosphere before starting your workout. Bringing comfortable clothes, like a loose-fitting shirt, can enhance your confidence. Listening to uplifting podcasts rather than intense music can guide you into a more serene mindset. Choose content that resonates with your interests in health and fitness to keep motivation high without the adrenaline rush. Also, incorporate techniques such as deep breathing before and during workouts to help maintain focus and alleviate anxiety. Engaging in slow, controlled movements while weightlifting not only builds muscle but promotes mindfulness. Pay close attention to your body and the weights, which helps distract from everyday stressors and pushes anxious thoughts aside. Emphasizing proper form and technique will enhance your workout while keeping you grounded. Try various fitness apps that guide you through workouts to eliminate the worry of planning and allow yourself to focus on each movement. Ultimately, a mindful approach in the gym can transform your experience from overwhelming to empowering.
